SUNDAY SERVICE DECEMBER 6TH 2015

SEASON OF THANKSGIVING

“O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good...This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” {Psalm 118:1, 24}

Psalms 113-118 are called Hallel Psalms, songs of praises and thanksgiving unto God. They were sung on the night of Passover. 113 and 114 was sung at the beginning of the meal, while 115 and 116 were sung at the close of it. Jesus sung these Psalms with His disciples in Matt. 26:30. They are still recited in Palestine eighteen times a year at various occasions, and twenty-one times yearly by those Jews outside the Holy Land
As King Solomon, the wise man rightly puts it in his wisdom book, thus, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” {Eccl. 3:1}. Indeed, you may have had times and seasons when it appeared there was no more life to live. You may  have experienced times and seasons that you never dream to meet  in your life time,  very rough times you probably saw no factual reason of thanking anybody, even God! Times of sorrow, weeping, unanswered questions, confusion, hardship, pains, lack, disappointment and what have you. Times God did not merit your “thank you.”  That season and times are all gone! Today, we have gathered together to say to our God THANK YOU OH, GOD ! This is our season  for thanksgiving.
I. REASONS TO BE THANKFUL
The Psalmist in Psalm 113 - 118 gave several reasons they were thankful to God. And for want of space we will consider a very few of them.
None is like unto Him
He made some joyful mothers and fathers
The Red Sea fled, and River Jordan driven back
The Rock turned Into a Standing Water
He was Their Help and shield.
He was Mindful of Them.
He Heard Their Prayers prayed in Distress
He Delivered Their Soul from Death
I know you’ve been through hell. I know however that if you look around carefully, you will see tangible reasons to be thankful: life, His mercy, protection, care,
blessings, answered prayers, etc. Let us enter into His
  gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.
  II. WAYS TO EXPRESS THANKFULNESS
The worshipers of the old did set examples of the ways we can fruitfully express our thankfulness unto God, thus:
We Will Call on His Name {Ps.116:12, 13}
With Sounds of Singing {Isa. 51:3; Psa. 95:1, 2; 103}
With Instruments of Music
      like when David brought up the Ark {I Chr. 15:16}
      like when Solomon dedicated the temple{ II Chr.5:13}
      like when Hezekiah restored the temple worship {2
      Chr. 29:25-30}
With Dance {Psa. 149:3; 150:4}
      like David danced {I Chr. 15:29 cf. 2 Sam 6:16}
With Our Substances; our HARVEST produce.
      God commanded it through Moses {Lev. 23:10-11}
      It is also called Ingathering {Ex. 23:16; 34:22; Deut.
      16:9-11}. It’s a season of rejoicing. No body was to
      come empty hand. {cf. Deut. 16:16}.
Harvest time is a happy time. Harvest time is a rest time {Ex.34:21-22}. Harvest time is a thanksgiving time. Let’s come forward before God singing, dancing, making melody with musical instruments and even with our hands. Let’s come with our substances rejoicing.

III. GAINS FROM THANKSGIVING/PRAISES
There are gains that are accruable from thanksgiving unto God. When we abandon complain and murmuring, and resort to joyful thanksgiving unto God, a lot of good things happen as shown in the scriptures. Let’s take but two examples:
Jehoshaphat Vs. Combined Forces {2 Chr. 20}
       God is brought on board the battle front
       Enemies are ambushed
       They are turned against each other
       Leaving all dead
       With much spoil  as blessing {Beracah}
       Resulting to joy
Paul And Silas Praised In Prison {Acts 16:23-27}
       There was a great earthquake
       The foundation of the prison shook
       All the doors were open
       Every one’s bands were loosed
       The jailer is saved
This is our season of thanksgiving. Let’s rise with all that we have to appreciate God, for He is good, and His mercy endures forever. Victory is very, very sure!
   Congratulations.

HOLD ON; DON’T QUIT!

“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”  {Mark 13:13; Matt. 24:13}
An average mind would wonder immensely, reading the words of Christ to His confirmed and firm disciples in John 16:33, and comparatively in 2Tim.3:12, asserting that in the world, they were going to suffer tribulation.
Friends, Life is full of bumps down the lane. There are many thorns, thistles and broken bottles on the walk-way of life. Indeed, there are challenges to every man journeying through life. God never guaranteed us life without it. He never promised us crown without prior cross, success without prior setback, open doors without  obstructions, honour without prior hindrances, and prosperity without prior pains.
But one thing is important to note: your  challenges become a ready instrument in the hands of the enemy to stop your walk with God, and your flow with your career and pursuit in life. So, no matter  how pressing and overwhelming your challenges, HOLD ON; DON’T QUIT! A discussion broke out between Jesus and his disciples, which led to the examination of the events that will happen close to the end of the age. Thus Jesus told them they were going to be hated by  all men for His name’s sake. However, He encouraged them, “He that shall ENDURE unto the end, shall be saved.”  The message is abundantly clear, HOLD ON; DON’T QUIT! If you anticipate victory at the end of life, you must ENDURE and keep digging. Isaac in Gen.26:1-22 would be our case study.
I.  HIS MATCHLESS BIOGRAPHY
   A. His Name Means amusement {Gen.17:17; 18:9-15}.
        It was amusing how 100year old father and 90year
        old mother could still give birth to Isaac
   B. The Only Son of Abraham by Sarah {Gen.21:1-3}
   C. The Child of Covenant & Promise {Gen. 17:1621}
   D. The Heir of Abraham’s Wealth {Gen.15:2-4}.
To me, every Abraham’s child, talk more his son, who came under the circumstance Isaac came should not
suffer. As a child promised by God and living on divine
 covenant; the only son staying with his amiable parents,
  and more so as the heir of his very wealthy father, life challenges was not humanly thinkable and feasible for Isaac. However, life does not work that way. Everyone his cross.
II.  THE UGLY, THE BAD, AND THE GOOD
     A.  Like His Father {Gen. 12:10}, He Was Struck With
           Famine, And He Relocates to Gerar {Gen.20:2}.
          {Gen.26:1}. Who would have believed that?
     B. God Quickly Intervened to Stop His Possible
          Move to Egypt - {v.2}. Egypt was not holding
 Isaac’s fortune. God had always warned His people  against making it an optional place to live in. It represents retrogress, failure, discouragement, stumbling block. Egypt is like a stop sign; if you see it, don’t stop!
     C. Isaac Was to Stay Put In Gerar. He Was to Wait in
         Obedience to God in Gerar; yet sojourning, For
         Therein Was His Fortune Hidden {v.3}.
     D. Isaac Prospered in Gerar, and Was Favoured.
         However, He Saw Both the Good, the Bad and the
         Ugly  -{vv. 6-17}. He was favoured by the king but
was dangerously opposed by the people of the land.

III. ENDURANCE PAYS
     A. Isaac’s Servants Sought to Reopen the Wells Which
          Abraham Dug, but Was Stopped by the Philistines
          -{vv.15}. He was asked by the king to leave the
          land on the account of getting mightier than the
          citizens  -{vv.16,17}.
     B. Isaac Dug the Well He Called Esek, because the
herdsmen of Gerar strove with him and took it from him - {v. 20}.
     C. Isaac Dug the Well He Called Sitnah, for they strove again against him and took it from him  -{v.21}.
     D. Isaac Refused to Stop and be Stopped. He Dug Yet the Third Well He Called Rehoboth, for nobody at this time strove with him again. Isaac observed that God had made a room for them, and they shall be fruitful  -{v.22}.

Friends, famine did not stop Isaac. Even in the face of  overwhelming opposition, he remained firm. Isaac ENDURED even harder, dug wells twice that were taken away from him. Thank God for the third attempt. Endurance pays off! Don’t Stop digging; winners don’t quit, and quitters don’t win  “...But he that endures unto the end shall be saved.”
                                                       GOD BLESS YOU!

SUNDAY SERVICE 22ND NOVEMBER 2015

ABOVE THE LAW

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Rom. 8:1
Laws, relevant to our discussion this morning is defined {1} as sets of system or rules that a particular people  is governed by, and {2} as a statement of fact, deduced from observation, to the effect that a particular natural or scientific phenomenon always occurs if certain conditions are present. Thus, if a man is bitten by a poisonous snake, naturally or scientifically the victim will die. If one jumps into the fire, lawfully he will be burnt. If  one dies and is buried, naturally and scientifically he cannot come back to life. Scientifically, if a woman passes the age of 45 to 50, she cannot conceive again, as she is said  to have  hit menopause. A man that steps on a deep water is by law going to sink and drown. Certain things are actually lawful. But however, be it the laws of men, or the laws of science and nature, we are  ABOVE THE LAW. You are ABOVE THE LAW!.

1. FAITH IN CHRIST ABOLISHES ALL LAWS
    a. Before Christ Came
God at Mount Sinai, knowing the kind of people the Israelites were, and the economy that prevailed in their time gave Moses the Laws, which dealt with the right code of conduct, both with their fellows and with God, and the proper pattern of worship, specifying the resultant penalty for disobedience.{Ex. 20 - 31, 34 - 35; cf. Lev.1 - 17}. This masterpiece legal document checked the social and religious life of the people, and continued until Christ  was born and ministered on earth.
   b. After Christ’s Ministry
Apostle Paul in the book of Romans, seeking to disabuse the mind of the Christian Jews, who still held very sacred the laws of Moses, as prerequisite and proof for genuine conversion of the Gentiles to faith in Christ, put the Laws of Moses and the Faith in Christ on a scale to rank. Though to the law he gave a pass mark, however he said, “...What things soever the law saith, it saith to them under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all
    the World become guilty before God. Therefore by the   deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; even the righteousness of God which is by faith of  Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believed...” {Rom. 3:19-22}. Thus Paul concluded according to our main text, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus , who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
Indeed, condemnation is the key instrument of every law.  But for men who are in Christ, their Faith is a more superior instrument Above the Law. Men who walk not according to flesh, but according to the Spirit are not bound by any promulgation
2. BY FAITH FIRE CANNOT BURN YOU {Dan. 3 }
    a. The Three Hebrew Boys Were Not Burnt
    b. You Will Walk Through Fire, But You Will Not
        Get Burnt {Isa. 43:2}.
    c. You Can As Well Walk Upon Water Without \
        Sinking And drowning {Matt. 14:25-30}

3. BY FAITH YOU ARE ABOVE THE LAW OF
    DEATH

    a. Lazarus Came Back From The Dead {John 11:25-
        44}.
    b. He That Believes In Christ, Even If He Dies, He
        Shall Live Again, And If He Lives, He Shall Not
        Die

4. BY FAITH YOU ARE ABOVE THE CLAWS OF
    THE LIONS AND THE POISON OF SNAKES

    a. Daniel In The Den Of Lion {Dan. 6}
    b. Paul Bitten By A Viper {Acts 28:1-6}
    c. They Shall Take Up Serpents {Mk.16:18}

5. BY FAITH YOU ARE ABOVE THE LAWS OF
    MENOPAUSE

    a. Sarah {Gen. 17:17-19; 18:10-14; 21:1-6}
    b. Hannah {I Sam. 1:2-20}

Friends, the list is endless, of men and women by whose Faith in God, the laws of science and nature, indeed all forms of laws never had conclusive control over them. If only you will Believe, everything is possible for him who
  believes. {Mk. 9:23}

GREAT BLESSINGS!

SUNDAY SERVICE 15TH NOVEMBER 2015

EZEKIEL; GOD’S RESTORATIVE
 INSTRUMENT

“So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon  their feet, an exceeding great army” Ezk. 37:10

Our life pathways, even as Christians are full of bumps. We are confronted with challenges, troubles, trials. We live in the world of irony; where Christians cry daily and shed tears. If it is not sickness and disease, it is job failure and financial destitution. Some of us are living very dried lives; lives without the hope that things will ever get better. That was the same situation the Israelites were confronted with while in captivity in Babylon. Like unburied skeletons, the people  were in a state of living death, pining away with no end to their judgement in sight. They thought their hope was gone and they were cut off forever. The surviving Israelites felt their national hopes had been dashed and the nation had died in flames of Babylon’s attack with no hope of resurrection.  It is in view of such situation that God called prophet Ezekiel for partnership; to be His VOICE for the restoration of the people.  Similarly, you can be a partner with God today: to prophesy, over those dry lives;  Resurrection and Restoration are Possible!
I. GOD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EZEKIEL {Ezk. 37:1-10}
    A. The Challenge God Was Invoved
        1. The hand of the Lord upon Ezekiel
        2. Carried out  in the Spirit of the Lord
        3. Set down in the midst of the valley full of bones
        4. Caused to pass by them round about for proof
             a} They were very many
             b} They were very dry
        5. Asked the question man has no answer for.
             a} Can these bones live?
             b} Is there hope for the hopeless?
             With God all things are possible. Restoration is
             sure. Resurrection is realizable! Questions are
            answered
        6. Directed to do one thing - “prophesy upon...”
 For Ezekiel, his job was simple: to speak forth the Word
    of God; the Word of Faith, the Word that is sure and
 infallible. The Word full of power. The Word that creates and recreates. The Word that makes changes possible.
         7. Ezekiel to prophesy, God to bring to pass
             a} Breath will enter into them and they will live
             b} Sinews will come upon them and they will live
             c} Flesh will come upon you, and cover your skin
         With God, total, complete, perfect and wholesome
         transformation is assured and guaranteed.
        8. Ezekiel’s two time’s declarations. Each had very
            crucial role to play. The first was followed by  a
            noise, a shaking, and bones coming together, bone
            to his bone. Sinews and flesh came upon them, but
            there was no breath The second time was to the
            wind, a symbol of the Holy Spirit of God. That
            caused breath come upon the bones, and they lived
  B. The True Picture Were The Israelite Captives
       1. The bones are the whole house of Israel. To them,
             their bone were dried, and their hope was lost.
       2. God promised to open their graves and bring
              them up out
       3. God will place His Spirit in them and they will
              live.
       4. They shall be brought back to their own land
       5. The will know that the Lord spoke it and perform it
II. GOD CAN PARTNER WITH YOU {Ezk. 37:11-14}
    A. It Depends On Your Relationship With Him. Are
           you born again?
    B. It Depends On The Strength of Your Faith? “All
         things are possible to them that believe”  Do you
         believe? {Matt. 21:22; 17:20; Lk. 17:6}
   C. It Depends On The Height Of Your Courage And
        Boldness. By Peter’s courage and boldness he
        walked on the water. {Matt. 14:27-29}
   D. It Depends On The Degree Of Your Holiness.
       Without holiness, no eye shall see God. {Heb. 12:14}
   E. It Depends On The Depth Of Your Prayer Life.
       Daniel’s  prayer life made him a wonder to the lions.
        {Dan.6:7-24}, Elijah’s caused drought {1 Kgs. 17,18
   F.  It Depends On The Word You Speak Forth. It was
        not  Ezekiel’s words that he was told to speak, but
       the Word of God. The Word that cannot be broken.
Friends, let us rise today and take a stand against our
 challenges. With God, you and I, miracles are possible, our troubles can be troubled, our mountains are
  movable. We can come out of  our lions’ den unhurt.

CALL FOR

“...WHOM SHALL SEND, AND WHO WILL GO FOR US?”  {Isa. 5:8 cf.1Kings 17:1-14}

Since the day Adam failed God at Eden, God had continued looking for a man. He has continued the search for men who will put their lives on a bait; men of work and sacrifice. Men that will put God first before their own lives. To Isaiah God cried, “...Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Thank God for his quickest response, “Here am I; send me.” {Isa. 6:8}. Looking for a man who will help out concerning the terrible spiritual decline of the Israelites, God cried, “And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it..”   But unfortunately however, He found none.
Our calling is a call unto sacrifice! Our lives must first be for the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Jesus told His disciples, “No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God.” {Luke 9:62}.
 This morning we shall see just three fellows, who God found, who made some sacrifices, and put their lives on a bait for God.

I. ELIJAH: THE FEARLESS FOR GOD. {1Kgs.17:1; 18:1-46}
It was a crucial time in the history of the northern
  kingdom of Israel; the two most evil leaders the World
ever known in Ahab and Jezebel, had led the  tribe into the worst idolatry and worship of false gods. The land swarmed with the priests of Baal and of groves. Proud of Court favour; glorying in their sudden rise to power; insolent, greedy, licentious, and debased. The fires of persecution were lit, and began to burn with fury. and of
all the thousands of Israel, only seven thousand remained who had not bowed the knee or kissed the hand of Baal. But they were paralyzed with fear, and kept still; even

Elijah didn’t know they were there.
The situation called for a fearless man of self-sacrifice, who would put God first; a man will put his life on a bait. Elijah appeared from no where.
He challenged the king, and demonstrated God’s power over rainfall. {1kgs. 17:1}
He challenged the Baal prophets to a contest that led to their death. {1kgs. 18:1-38}.
God is yet  looking for men like Elijah, who would care more about God, and care less about themselves.

II. THE WIDOW OF ZEREPHATH: UNPOPULAR ALTERNATIVE. {1Kgs.17:8-15}
God told Elijah to withdraw from the brook of Cherith to Zerephath, where He has commanded a widow to sustain him. But why a widow and not one rich man? To some, she is an unpopular alternative.
The demand of the man of God was unpopular and inconsiderate. Demanding the only food left for her and her only son. To us, it was too much a demand. That is what God does - God first!
God rewarded her obedience and sacrifice.
God is looking for men who share same status with this widow. Men who think they have nothing. God makes something from nothing. God first!

III. DAVID’S 3 MIGHTY MEN: UNCOMMON SACRIFICE. {2Sam.23:15-17}
This is one the best example of sacrifice which God requires us to make.
David longed to drink the water of the well of Bethlehem, a venture that was suicidal.
But three out of his gallant soldiers volunteered themselves, even if it meant dying.
And to the king’s amazement, they came with the water.
But the king did not drink the water, instead he poured it out unto the Lord
He saw it as their blood.
Friends, God is waiting to  take record of your sacrifice.
He found the man He looked for in Noah, Abraham, Moses, Isaiah etc. Can He find that man in YOU today?

SUNDAY SERVICE 1ST NOVEMBEER 2015

THE PRIDE, THE HUMILITY: YOUR CHOICE

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with  the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” Pro. 16:18-19

The Bible constantly warns us of the dangers of pride. Why? Because pride deposes God as the sovereign of our lives. Once pride controls a man, he ceases to recognize God as the Master (cf. Det. 8:11-20; Ps. 12:3,4; 52:7; 10:1-5; Pr. 6:16; 8:13; etc). The ruin of pride is one of the lessons we learn studying the Old Testament Kings. This is illustrated in the study of two Pharaohs:

I. PHARAOH # 1 {Gen. 50:4-11}. The following character traits are discovered about him:
He was respectful to others {v. 6}
He Acknowledged God’s sovereignty {cf. 41:25-32}. Thus he believed and trusted God {41:39}
His respect for God impacted others for good - the World was saved from starvation.
He was humble that he submitted willingly to God’s Word, and did exactly as advised {cf. 41:37}. That willingness brought peace and security to the nation that made Pharaoh a mighty  king {41:57; 42:2}.

II. PHARAOH # 2 {Ex. 5:1-21}. This King is completely a contrast to the former. In his true character he was self-centered, ruthless, and a tyrant (10:3b):
He was full of contempt {cf. 18:2}.
He was inflexible - he refused to follow God’s directions. His was a bent to self rather than God “I will NOT let Israel go! That resolution brought calamities to the land.
He was controlled by anger. His rage was sinful. This viciously attacked and caused much suffering.
He was motivated by self-interest {5:4,5}. To him, the words of Moses and Aaron was a challenge to his monarchy.

He lacked respect for others. He ordered for their  destruction without conscience.
 He was ego-centric. He thought himself greater than Jehovah God.
He was offended at God’s Word. He didn’t see reasons for taken God’s command.
He was a profane person. Egyptian religion persuaded him to believe that he was god. He became insolent and opposed God’s authority. He demonstrated a haughty sin {cf. Ps.73:9; 2 Thess. 2:4}.
We can be profane today as Pharaoh {cf. Titus 1:16}.
He depreciated God’s Holy Word {5:9}. These are always the words of those that  oppose God {cf. 2 Kings 18:20; Acts 17:32}.

He persisted in wrong-doing and even escalated his sin. He held God in a very inferior esteem. His ignorance of God could have been corrected, but he remained ignorant.
He was proud. He could not change his orders. He thought he was invincible and able easily to escape God’s authority. In 5:2 he speaks as though he was the supreme monarch of the universe and there was no one rival to him.
He was sinful at speech. His words were bitter and spiteful.
His lack of respect for God impacted negatively on others {5:21}.

III. LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE TWO

Everyone has a choice to make. The question  by Pharaoh # 2 must be answered by everyone today - Just WHO is God in your life?
By our attitudes we will definitely face divine justice. Nobody fasten us up to God but by our willingness to follow Him.
Pride leads to great suffering; but humility leads to great reverence.
Good men are often harshly criticized by those like Pharaoh # 2 but honoured by those like Pharaoh # 1.
Your attitudes in life will lead either to the “BURNING BUSH” of dedication to God or the “BURNING BRIDGES” of profane life.

The question therefore is “WHICH HAVE YOU CHOSEN? Pharaoh # 1 or Pharaoh # 2?

BLESSINGS!
